Dear Coaches, Spring Athletes, & Families,
Today, we are able to provide details regarding the latest plan for athletes (ages 13-19) participating in spring sports. Please review the following and let us know if we can answer any questions.
All students involved in spring sports must read and sign the attached forms:
Please print and sign these forms prior to first day of practice. We will also have printed copies available at MMHS in the Athletic Office. Your preparation will help to speed up the registration process on the first day and allow practice to get started sooner.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is now able to provide COVID-19 rapid antigen tests for school sanctioned athletics. Our tentative plan is to begin testing Monday, April 5 during lunch periods (11:00-12:30) following the schedule below. If you are taking virtual classes and playing spring sports, you will need to come in at your scheduled time for your weekly rapid test.
- Mondays: soccer
- Tuesdays: HS track
- Wednesdays: baseball, golf, & softball
- Thursdays: tennis & MS track
Our athletic trainer Kevin Kott, assisted by other trained school staff, will conduct the testing, and dispose of the medical waste. The students will swab their own nostrils. This link provides information about the testing NAVICA™ Mobile App and Binax NOW™ COVID-19 Ag CARD. You will find a 2-minute video explaining the testing towards the bottom of the webpage.
More specific information regarding testing can be found on the MHSAA Health & Safety page: https://www.mhsaa.com/schools/
Further guidance regarding athletic participation can be found on the MDHHS website: https://www.michigan.gov/
Please reach out to the MAPS Athletic department with any questions or concerns. We look forward to a safe and enjoyable spring sports season.
Sincerely,
Kevin Schmutzler, Athletic Director
