Veterans from the Manistee VFW 4499 Post lead Jefferson Elementary students in the raising of a new flag to commemorate Memorial Day.  The Vets shared the history of the flag, ways to fold and care for the flag, and how to dispose of a flag.  The students said the Pledge of Allegiance when the flag was raised, and shared a moment of silence to honor all the people who keep our community safe as the flag was lowered to half-mast.

To end the ceremony, the Walsh Post Vets gave each student a flag to take home to share with their families.  Student Mila A. said, “I know I will take care of this flag, and I didn’t even know I was going to have one of  my own.”
