On May 24th, a spring evening with a warm breeze and sunshine set the stage for the 2021 MAPS High School Symphonic and Jazz Bands and the 8th Grade Band outdoor concert held on the Manistee Middle/High School grounds. The performance showcased the students’ outstanding musical talents and achievements. MAPS’ Band Director and Instrumental Teacher Andrea Mack dedicated a portion of the program to recognize all the seniors from the MHS Classes of 2020 and 2021.
In January 2020, the Michigan State Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) named Ms. Mack as the recipient of the “2020 Michigan Band Teacher of the Year Award.” The honor was announced at the MSBOA All-State Band Performance in DeVos Hall in Grand Rapids during the Michigan Music Conference. (However, the award presentation was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.) Monday night’s concert provided the ideal opportunity for MSBOA State President Greg Normandin to travel to Manistee from Detroit to officially present Ms. Mack with the plaque commemorating this prestigious and well-earned award. Congratulations, Ms. Mack!
Of the concert evening, Ms. Mack “noted” that a “good time was had by all!”
