Have you been bored for the last 4 1/2 months? Ready to get out of the house and do something? I know it seems like the middle of summer, but the calendar is showing that August is already here. Even though we’ve been away from school for a long time, classes are scheduled to be restarting soon, and along with fall comes another exciting Manistee Cross Country season.
I would like to invite you to join the 2020 MHS Varsity Cross Country team. We’re coming off a successful 2019 season for both boys and girls, and this year both squads have the potential to be even better! So if you’ve got the desire to see how far you can push yourself, or if you just want to get in great condition, then cross-country is the place to be this fall!
For underclassmen, Cross Country is also a great way to earn a Varsity letter. There are no tryouts or cuts for our team, and there is no sitting on the bench – everyone who gives full effort will make the squad.
The official first day of Cross Country practice this year is Wednesday, August 12th. Practices for the first week will be daily from 5:00-6:45 p.m. at Manistee High School. Come ready to run and bring a water bottle! If you didn’t get a sports physical last school year, you will need one before beginning practice. Our first meet is currently set for August 24th, and team camp is (hopefully!) scheduled for August 20-21. (All of these dates are subject to change.)
Whether you have experience with running Cross Country or not, you are encouraged to attend the remaining pre-season conditioning sessions this summer. Conditioning will last about 55 minutes. Conditioning sessions are NOT required, but getting started now will make the first few weeks of practice much easier!
Please mark the following dates and times for pre-season conditioning on your calendar:
Mondays – Aug 3rd and 10th @ Manistee High School 8:30am
Thursdays – July 29tt and Aug 6th @ 1st St. Beach 5pm
Fall Sports Parent Meeting – August 6th, 6pm at MMHS.
Feel free to call 233-1433 or e-mail ethuemmel@manistee.org if you have any questions about Manistee XC. I hope to see you there on August 12th!
